Ryouma Sakamoto[]

Ryouma is a main protagonist from Blade of the Immortal: Bakumatsu Arc, sequel to Blade of the Immortal.

Personality[]

He is a cheerful, optimistic, and energetic young man. He loves hearing Manji's "tall tales" but unlike other people, he believes what Manji tells him about his immortality and vague past. He often tries to get information out of Manji regarding his romantic life, and is disappointed when Manji avoids giving any answers. He is on the side of the Imperialists and sees a bright, strong future for Japan.

Plot[]

Tosa, Shikoku

Ryouma wants Manji to accompany him to Kyoto, where political and civil unrest are occurring between the Imperialists and the Shinsengumi. He finds him living in Tosa, teaching English to a boy, Niijima Shimeta.

Manji discusses the nature of his immortality, but does not divulge any specific information on the matter. Since Manji remains immortal, Ryouma suggests that helping people may lead to his atonement because killing villains didn't work.

Kyoto

Ryouma and Manji go to Kyoto. Upon seeing his first Shinsengumi members, Manji is cut down by them because he is wearing a sword, but springs back to life and settles the score; Ryouma is ecstatic to see that Manji is indeed immortal.

Trivia[]

Ryouma Sakamoto was a real samurai from Tosa. Born in 1836, he became opposed to the Tokugawa Shogunate and fought for the Imperialists. It is therefore implied that Ryouma in this manga is "the real" Ryouma.
